Our vision is to develop this block as a centre of excellence in Maternal and Child health care. In this connection, the Maternal and Child health block requires some additional medical equipment. We are looking for an international Matching grant partner to support us in this noble cause.
Rotary Club of Madras Metro was started in 1985 as the 11th Rotary club in the then city of Madras, District 3230. Currently, the club is under the newly bifurcated District 3232 and has 51 active members. Metro has been a top performer especially with its contribution to TRF.
Metro has 105 PHFS, 7 Major Donors and one Arch Club Chair’s Circle Member through one associate, Mr.Ram Sundaram who has contributed US$ 600,000 to TRF for polio eradication. Metro has an overall contribution of more than a Million Dollar Contribution to the Foundation. Metro will be the second club to achieve this Rare Feat in the district.
Over the years our three-decade old club has truly been exemplifying Rotary’s motto of “Service above self” by taking up meaningful community service projects especially in the area of Health care. For Example, our club has been associated with the Cancer Institute and has done a number of projects there costing over $150000 in the last decade.
In recent years through our member Rtn Dr. Suresh, our club has been associated with VHS (Voluntary Health Services) in a big way. VHS - the 60-year-old institution is situated in a massive 24-acre campus in the southern centre of Chennai city. VHS was found by Dr. K.S. Sanjeevi was an eminent Physician and scholar in the year 1958. VHS offers its services to the poor and middle class based on their clinical needs rather than on their ability to pay for services.
In the year 2016Rotary Club Of Madras Metro has opened a brand new “Abhimanyu Block” at VHS exclusively to provide state of the art Maternal and Child health care. This building has 65 beds with a 20 bedded neonatal intensive care, Paediatric ICU and all Paediatric sub-specialities.
The building of the Abhimanyu block at VHS worth $800000 was completely funded by GK Shetty charitable trust of our member Rtn Ramana Shetty.
One more member of our club Rtn Dilip Bajaj contributed $100000 through his family trust Usha K Jolly trust to the Rotary Foundation. The medical equipment and furniture of this block were funded by TRF under Global Grant No: 1636621 for about $150000.
The Building and equipment were inaugurated by Rtn Kalyan Banerjee the then Chairman of Trustees of Rotary foundation and the Past President of Rotary International during the TRF centenary year.
